Billy and the Chicks

I feel like chicken tonight

We all love KFC. Come on, don’t deny it. It’s fine! Sometimes, kale will not do the trick and all we need is some good old fashioned comfort food in the form of fried chicken and chips. For you vegetarians – it’s all about the deep fried veggie burger, chips and mac ‘n’ cheese. Well, now there’s a posh fried chicken place, which (unlike KFC) serves cocktails and plays Hip Hop so Cookie and I went to check it out.

Billy and the Chicks is tucked away in Soho. It’s got a trendy retro vibe – the decor is brick with wooden tables and hanging light bulbs. It feels like  you could be in Shoreditch. For larger parties, there’s a private dining room called The Coop, which has got a blackboard wall. It’s perfect for bloggers who want to plug their Instagram. Lol.

The Stinger

Meat eaters – you HAVE to try The Stinger. It’s a spicy chicken burger with crisp lettuce and light mayo (miracle whip – tastes as good as it sounds) in a seeded brioche bun. Please add cheese. Order the skin on fries.

Veggie lovers – the veggie burger is slicker than your average. It’s got jalapenos, garlic and lime ‘n’ chive whip.

Everyone – the mac ‘n’ cheese is simple and tasty. We shared it because…well, carbicide. Speaking of which, head to the restaurant before the end of March for their special Nutella pie **swoon**. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. Check out the menu below.

I said a Hip Hop

The restaurant has a cool DJ booth, which plays Hip Hop and R’n’B classics. Be prepared to be saying “Chooooon!” in between big bites of your burger. They have a #ChickenNBeer night every Wednesday from 6pm with guest DJs. You can often find BBC 1xtra’s Mistajam on the decks. So if you fancy eating a juicy burger with Ashanti and Biggie in your ear, get down to Billy and the Chicks. Ask for Sam, tell him Cookie and Bela sent you and he might give you a free Peanut Butter and Jam pie*.

*He might not.
